Problem Description

The WIC-1AM and WIC-2AM were not FCC Class B Compliant.

Background

The WIC-1AM and WIC-2AM were originally released as FCC Class A compliant. The Cisco 1700 series of routers required these WIC cards to be modified to the more stringent FCC Class B compliance to maintain the overall FCC Class B compliance of the router.

Problem Symptoms

There are no physical symptoms or error messages generated. These WICs produced more RF emissions than allowed by FCC Class B compliance.

Workaround/Solution

Replace the affected hardware if FCC Class B certification is required in your Cisco 1700 router environment.

As of approximately February 27, 2002, new products that were manufactured under Engineering Change Order (ECO) E051736 are guaranteed to be free of this problem. Refer to How to Identify Hardware Levels below for instructions on how to view the version of in-service product. Product shipped from Service Logistics may still exhibit this problem. Coding return materials authorizations (RMAs) as shown below guarantees a replacement which is not affected by this problem:

Service Level: Mfg New - 3rd Bus Day NON BILLABLE
Failure Class: Administrative Request
Failure Code: Field Notice Alert
