Problem Description

Issuing the show subsys, show tech, or show controllers command crashes the system. One of many show commands crashes the Catalyst 85xx system if issued after the show hardware or show hardware detail commands. This happens only if both power supplies are present, or if a single power supply is present in PS1. This problem has Cisco bug ID CSCdm91042 (registered customers only) .

Background

This bug was seen at user sites where the show hardware command was issued to verify the revision levels of the system components. It has been identified as the cause of Cisco bug ID CSCdm47048 (registered customers only) (switch crash on show tech-support command) where a temporary fix was made.

Problem Symptoms

A crash during the show commands.

Workaround/Solution

Workaround

On a system with two power supplies, pull out Supply 1 before issuing the show commands mentioned above. If there is only one power supply, make sure it is Supply 0 that is being used.

This problem has been fixed, and the fix is available with Cisco IOS® Software 12.0(4a)W5(11a) for the MSR and Cisco IOS 12.0(4a)WX5(11a) Release and later for the CSR.
