Cisco Personalized Video Architectures

Personalized Video Delivery System

Cisco Content Delivery Systems use networked Cisco Content Delivery Engines, which are optimized for content ingest, storage, caching, personalization, or streaming. These engines can be grouped into arrays and function as a single logical system (Figure 1). Cisco Content Delivery Systems:

  • Function as a true video network, not just a video server
  • Use the same IP networking concepts that allow the Internet to efficiently scale from a few servers to millions
  • Provide almost unlimited video storage and streaming capacity
These Content Delivery Engines can be grouped into arrays, and function as a single logical system (Figure 1)

Personalized Video Quality Experience

Cisco Visual Quality Experience (VQE) technology is based on an innovative client-server architecture. This framework provides intelligent signaling between the subscriberÂ’s set-top box (STB) and the video network (Figure 2).


Cisco Visual Quality Experience (VQE) technology is based on an innovative client-server architecture. This framework provides intelligent signaling between the subscriberÂ’s set-top box (STB) and the video network (Figure 2).

The VQE buffers video streams in your edge network and communicates with an intelligent client in the subscriber STB, which constantly monitors for line errors. When the client detects missing or corrupted packets, it dynamically re-sends them and splices them into the STB video stream. Viewers never even notice a problem.


This buffering mechanism also:

  • Speeds up channel-change times
  • Monitors service quality
