About Extended ASCII Character Support
Before Directory Services Release 5.3, Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Directory Services did not support US ASCII characters with numeric values greater than 127. Extended ASCII characters (values greater than 127) were "escaped" into a compatible form, as shown in the example in Table C-1:

Directory Services now supports a limited number of ASCII characters with values greater than 127. These characters will not be escaped and appear correctly. Supported characters are listed in Table C-2.
Note Extended ASCII characters are stored as UTF-8 on the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Audio Server. Applications that are not UTF-8 compatible will not display these characters correctly.
Supported Single Byte Extended ASCII Characters
Note Directory Services does not support multi-byte characters.
The new reverse mapping code in Directory Services supports the single byte extended ASCII characters that are identified in Table C-2.

Activating Extended ASCII Character Support

Step 2 From the Windows Start menu, choose Run.
Step 3 To open the Windows registry, enter regedit.
Step 4 Modify the following registry key:
