About Installing Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Directory Services

If you are a Cisco partner or technician responsible for installing Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Directory Services, review the content in the "Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Directory Services Implementation Steps and Checklist" appendix before you install Directory Services.

Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Directory Services Service User Account

The Directory Services service user account is a Windows user account that has special privileges on the Directory Services server. Before you install Directory Services, you must create this account in Windows. You may also choose to install and run Directory Services by using the default Administrator user account.

The service user account must have the following special privileges:

Local Administrator

Logon as a service

Note We recommend that the service user account that you use to install and run Directory Services be a local user account that you create on the Directory Services server, rather than using a Windows domain account or an Active Directory account. Though not a requirement, using a local Windows account ensures that modifications or updates to the domain do not affect Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Directory Services operation.

Prerequisites for Installing Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Directory Services

Verify that your system meets the requirements that are specified in the System Requirements for Cisco Unified MeetingPlace, at http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/ps5664/ps5669/prod_installation_guides_list.html.

If you choose to identify a server by hostname rather than by IP address, ensure that DNS is enabled to resolve the hostname.

Ensure that the Directory Services service user account was assigned the following special privileges and that you log in to Windows by using this account before you install Directory Services:

Local Administrator privilege

Logon as a service privilege

For more information, see the "Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Directory Services Service User Account" section.
