The State field shows the status of the connection between two serial tunnel (STUN) peer routers. The State field may have one of the following values:
dead—Trying to open, but failing (or the connection died).
opening—Trying to open and waiting for connection.
openwait—Trying to open and waiting for connection.
open—Fully connected and able to exchange STUN data.
direct—Direct connection between two ports in the same box. There is no need to consider a connection state between them.
Note: A STUN peer connection will only become open when there is traffic flowing across the tunnel, otherwise it will remain closed. This behavior is contrary to data-link switching (DLSw), where the peers go to connected status as soon as there is IP connectivity between them.
