SAN JOSE, CA. – On October 29, 2018, Permira Funds completed its acquisition of Cisco’s Service Provider Video Software Solutions (SPVSS) business and created a new company named Synamedia.

Synamedia and Permira are committed to our customers’ success. Cisco will continue to deliver on our existing commitments and bring new revenue-generating services and experiences to the market. Cisco and Permira are closely aligned and committed to a smooth transition for the SPVSS business. We will continue to engage and communicate our progress during the transition.

Cisco remains deeply committed to the service provider industry and on enabling traditional service providers, media and web companies to thrive in the digital age. As a primary Cisco go-to-market channel, service providers are among our most valued business and technology partners. We continue to invest heavily in areas such as networking, 5G, security, optics, software, silicon, and cable access to help service providers reduce cost and complexity, secure their networks, and ultimately grow their revenues.

Given Cisco’s strategy, we will enable the SP Video Software Solutions business as it transitions to Synamedia. Synamedia will continue to drive the focus, investment and expertise required to create greater value, and grow and win in the marketplace.

Going forward, Permira will be a highly valued partner and we will continue to collaborate on joint customer engagements to ensure a smooth transition.

Q: What part of Cisco’s business was divested?

A:
Cisco divested the Service Provider Video Software Solutions (SPVSS) business to Permira Funds, a global private equity firm. SPVSS is a business that was one part of the broader Service Provider portfolio under SVP/GM Service Provider Business, Yvette Kanouff.

Permira acquired a leading portfolio that spans the video delivery value chain with solutions including the Infinite Video Platform, cloud DVR, video processing, video security, video middleware, and services groups. Cisco retained the video and media technology related to its core business in networking, multi-cloud, security, data, and collaboration.
