Health Information Networking

Available to all Cisco Networking Academies in the United States

Healthcare IT professionals are in demand. Cisco Networking Academy now offers a specialized Health Information Networking course designed to supplement Networking Academy core classes and help students prepare for 21st century careers in a healthcare environment. Health Information Networking provides optional learning material that exposes students to the unique IT skills required to succeed in the healthcare provider workplace.

The Cisco Health Information Networking course is a technology-focused curriculum primarily designed for Cisco Networking Academy students who are looking for career-oriented, entry-level healthcare focused specialist skills. It is designed for students pursuing opportunities in the health IT field.

Health Information Networking provides a theoretically rich, hands-on introduction to networking in the healthcare environment presented in a logical sequence driven by technologies, as is typical of college and university-level IT programs.

The goals of Health Information Networking are as follows:

  • Provide an introduction to networking in healthcare
  • Provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to design and support networks in a healthcare environment
  • Provide an experience-oriented course that employs industry-relevant instructional approaches to prepare students for associate-level jobs in the industry
  • Enable students to have significant onsite or remote interaction with IT equipment to prepare them for certification exams and career opportunities

To enroll in the Health Information Networking course, students should have sufficient routing and switching knowledge and skills. CCNA Discovery students should complete the first two courses: Networking for Home and Small Businesses, and Working at a Small-to-Medium Business or ISP. CCNA Exploration students should complete the first three courses: Network Fundamentals, Routing Protocols and Concepts, and LAN Switching and Wireless.
