Intel

Intel: Delivering Technology to Advance the Ways People Work and Live

In 1968, Robert Noyce and Gordon Moore left the pioneering Silicon Valley firm Fairchild Semiconductor to start a new chip company, soon to be known as Intel Corporation. Today, the two co-founders are recognized worldwide for their contributions to technology, industry, and society – contributions which continue to serve as guideposts for Intel. Noyce is credited with creating the first integrated circuit (IC) made from silicon, the basis of all modern electronics. Moore made the famous observation, in Electronics magazine in 1965, later called Moore's Law, that the number of transistors that can be placed in a given area of a silicon microchip doubles every two years -- effectively chartering the pace of silicon-based innovation for Intel, the industry, and humankind ever since.

Headquartered in Santa Clara, Calif., Intel today has more than 100,000 employees in 63 countries and serves customers in more than 120 countries. Having introduced the industry's first commercially available memory chips in 1969 and the first commercially available microprocessor in 1971, Intel today designs and manufactures a variety of essential technologies, including microprocessors and chipsets and the additional hardware, software and related services that together serve as the foundation for many of the world's computing devices.

Over the last decade, Intel has evolved from a company that largely serves the PC industry, to a company that increasingly provides the vital intelligence inside all things computing. In fact, one-third of Intel's revenue is associated with products beyond the PC. Hardware and software products by Intel and subsidiaries such as McAfee, power the majority of the world's data centers, connect hundreds of millions of cellular handsets and help secure and protect computers, mobile devices and corporate and government IT systems. Intel technologies are also inside intelligent systems, such as in automobiles, automated factories and medical devices.

Through these products and services, Intel aims to deliver engaging, consistent and secure experiences across all Internet-connected devices, whether in the home, car, office or pocket. To this end, the company applies its unique technology and manufacturing strengths, global reach and brand, along with its substantial ongoing investments in R&D and its extensive worldwide business ecosystem.

Recognized as the seventh most valuable brand1 in the world, Intel is cited regularly as one of the best places for employees to work. The company continues to attract and develop the scientists, engineers and researchers who are helping define how the world experiences computing.

F1 in Schools powered by Cisco WebEx Cisco Networking Academy

Τhe Greek Qualifying races of the F1 in schools, held at Cisco Connect Greece 2013

By using Cisco WebEx applications, students from Greece and Cyprus can interact and work together with engineers in a real-world environment, giving them valuable skills and knowledge they can use to succeed in school and in their later careers.
Elena Prassaki, Marketing & Communications Manager, Greece, Cyprus and Malta, Cisco

The “F1 in School” Technology Challenge is a worldwide multidisciplinary challenge for pupils aged 9 - 19 and a global educational programme promoting STEM subjects. The challenge is now in its 12th year of operation and is operating in over 40 countries. It inspires students to use IT to learn about physics, aerodynamics, design, manufacture, branding, graphics, sponsorships, marketing, leadership/teamwork, media skills and financial strategy, and apply them in a practical, competitive and exciting way.

Now F1 in Schools Teams in Greece and Cyprus can use Cisco WebEx solutions to learn from working professionals and get hands-on experience with industry-standard engineering tools. “By using Cisco WebEx applications, students from Greece and Cyprus can interact and work together with engineers in a real-world environment, giving them valuable skills and knowledge they can use to succeed in school and in their later careers” says Elena Prassaki.

Because Cisco WebEx technology is web-based, the solution can be deployed to hundreds of schools and thousands of students across Greece and Cyprus without needing in-house IT staff. “Anyone can access the full suite of Cisco WebEx features easily from any computer with an Internet connection, so people who live in the remote, rural areas can participate,” Elena says. “By minimizing the physical distance between students, Cisco WebEx services will eliminate the biggest barrier to their success.

The F1 in Schools Teams in Greece and Cyprus can use Cisco WebEx solutions to work together in highly interactive teams, reviewing designs, providing real-time feedback, and even controlling manufacturing equipment remotely. “Because Cisco WebEx solutions are video-enabled and allow application sharing, teams can use PCs at their local schools to control a computer controlled machine located hundreds of kilometers away and watch their F1 cars being machined from blocks of balsa wood”, Elena says. “With Cisco WebEx technology, students not only get hands-on experience with the latest engineering technology, they can also see their designs come to life.

The F1 in Schools Teams in Greece and Cyprus can use Cisco WebEx video capabilities to produce competition webcasts for global audiences, and relies on Cisco WebEx Connect to provide thousands participants with access to competition documentation. “By using the wide array of Cisco WebEx features, we will be able to build a successful F1 in Schools community in Greece and Cyprus,” says Dimitris Polymatidis, the F1 in Schools Coordinator in Greece and Cyprus. “Not only that, but we will also built an innovative program to educate the next generation of engineering leaders in Greece and Cyprus.
