One of the most administratively demanding parts of managing an IP network is assigning and changing IP addresses. This problem is getting more pronounced because of mobile workers, increased segmentation of LANs and deployment of IP across more and more platforms.

Host vendors are addressing this problem by adding support for the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol which automates configuration of IP addresses.
