On September 24, 1997, Cisco and Microsoft announced an initiative and a draft specification for directory enabled networks (DEN). This initiative is an open, industry-wide initiative with the goal of helping customers develop rich network applications that will work with offerings from a variety of network and directory vendors. The initiative is supported by more than twenty companies.
