The Cisco IOSŪ software enables integration of a variety of legacy protocols onto a single IP backbone. These legacy protocols include Synchronous Data Link Control (SDLC), Bisynchronous (BSC), and Asynchronous protocols. These protocols are common in retail and banking - for teller or point of sale terminals, automatic teller machines, and security systems. In addition, the Cisco IOS software supports consolidation of serial protocols specific to the airline industry. By consolidating these protocols onto a TCP/IP backbone, enterprises can reduce recurring costs, eliminate redundant equipment, and improve availability.
