Cisco Secure User Registration Tool (URT) is a dynamic authorization and policy control framework that manages access to the LAN by partitioning user traffic through VLANs. It provides organizations with increased LAN security by actively identifying and authenticating users as they access the network. URT associates users to the specific network resources they are authorized to use by dynamically assigning them to their appropriate VLAN, independent of their network port connection. URT also intelligently monitors and manages user identification, locations, and network access times and allows users to move throughout the campus and securely access their resources and services from any available LAN port. As a result, LAN user traffic is partitioned through VLAN port assignments based on a user's identity. With URT, RJ-45 wall jacks are no longer penetration threats to corporate networks.

Cisco Secure URT utilizes existing switch capabilities for registration of MAC as well as user information. Cisco Secure URT introduces new Web based logon capability that supports most commonly used client OS platforms, including Windows, Macintosh, and Linux. URT also introduces authentication support for both LDAP as well as RADIUS directories (such as Cisco Secure ACS).

Cisco Secure URT interoperates with all Cisco switches that support VMPS functionality.
