End of Sale Announcement for Long Range Clip Cards
for Cisco ONS 15252 and Cisco ONS 15201This product bulletin serves as formal notification that the Clip Cards, listed in Table 1 below, for the Cisco ONS 15252/15201 metro DWDM system, will reach their End of Life stages according to the dates outlined in Table 2 below. This is done in an effort to simplify ordering of the Cisco ONS 15200 Family of products by discontinuing redundant products. These older Clip cards have got equivalent replacement modules within the Cisco ONS 15200 Family, as shown in Table 3 below.
The Cisco ONS 15200 Clip Cards listed above in Table 1 will be replaced by the following Clip Cards listed in Table 3.
Backward Compatibility
Equipment Functionality—The listed replacement product names (clip cards) are functionally equivalent to the EoL products. In addition, the recommended replacement products offer the customers numerous benefits, including:

Supports new services that can be carried at any bit rate from 100 Mbps to 1.25 Gbps (for example, Fast Ethernet, ESCON, FICON, or Fibre Channel)
•
Requires only a single board for the new reshape and retransmit (2R) services, as well as existing reshape, retime, and retransmit (3R) SONET/SDH and Gigabit Ethernet services
•
Facilitates network management redundancy through support for multiple network control boards (NCBs) in a subnetwork
•
Enables fully meshed traffic in ring topologies
•
Supports future upgrade to 32 channels with lasers qualified for 100 GHz spacing
•
Protected or unprotected operation software configurable using the same board, thereby reducing the customer inventory/number of spare parts needed
Software Support—Replacement product names will operate with existing (release 1.1) system software. No new software will be required to support the replacement products.
