VDM is an embedded device manager.
VDM is used to manage and configure site-to-site VPNs on a single device from a web browser, and view the effects of their changes in real time. VDM implements a wizards-based GUI that allows simplified VPN configuration of the device on which it resides. VDM software is installed directly onto the routers' or switch’s flash. VDM monitors general system statistics and router or switch health information such as tunnel throughput and errors. The graphing capability allows comparison of such parameters as traffic volume, tunnel counts, and system utilization. VDM is available at no additional charge; and customers can download VDM directly from CCO (listed below) or specify VDM as an option at time their router or switch is ordered. VDM supports the following Cisco series routers: 1700, 2600, 3600, 7100, 7200, 7400, and 7600. VDM now also supports the Catalyst 6000. Support of the Catalyst 6000 or Cisco 7600 Internet router requires the IPSec VPN Acceleration Service Module.
There is another VPN management product called VMS (VPN / Security Management Solution), which is used for both small and large scale VPN and security deployments enabling customers to manage their site-to-site and remote access VPNs, firewalls, network and host-based IDS. More information on VMS is available at: http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/cc/pd/wr2k/vpmnso/
