Cisco BBSM Hotspot 1.0
Building Broadband Service Manager Version 5.2

Cisco Building Broadband Service Manager (BBSM) is an access gateway for public access networks that enables simple, plug-and-play access, end user self-provisioning of services, multiple authentication and billing options and Web-based management, reporting and configuration. BBSM works with Cisco access-layer LAN products to provide a complete solution that enables service providers or property owners to create, market and operate broadband access services in vertical markets such as hospitality, public spaces/hotspots, and higher-education.

Cisco BBSM supports multiple authentication/authorization/accounting and billing options; including credit card, prepaid and post paid RADIUS, property management system and access codes and even free access through existing interfaces or open APIs. A comprehensive software developer's kit allows customization of BBSM to fit the unique needs of any business for branding, billing, reporting, access and other creative operational additions that may fit one's business needs.

Cisco BBSM is available as a fully integrated pre-loaded server appliance or as a CD only product including Microsoft Win2000 and ISA server for customers who wish to use their own servers.

New Features in BBSM 5.2 Include:

  • Support for client selection between Public and Private IPs (a.k.a.MultiNet)

  • Supports IPSEC VPN connectivity by providing dynamic allocation of both public and private IP to enable improved VPN support while conserving IP addresses.

  • Prepaid support for full AAA RADIUS
  • Allows users to pre-pay for Internet service prior to a session, or Service Providers and others to offer promotional coupons for access. Usage is deducted and tracked by a RADUIS accounting server. The remote RADIUS server must support a pre-paid model using the Session-Timeout attribute sent back with the RADIUS accept packet.

  • Bandwidth Reservation and Calendaring

  • BBSM calendar interface allows bandwidth to be reserved for upcoming events easily using an intuitive, easy-to-use GUI without technical assistance. Working in conjunction with the property's router, it provides bandwidth management capabilities at the edge of the network.

  • Two Way Property Management System (PMS) API

  • An API set is provided to allow for two way PMS communication guest experience personalization and other activities.

  • Support for Cable Modem networks and the configuration of private IP address

  • ranges for cable modems and public IP addresses for customer computers.

  • Roaming support for IPASS Smart Client and Boingo

  • Enables the venue to support visitors/guests who wish to authenticate via Ipass or Boingo subscriptions and associated clients

  • Web-based wizards for creating custom hotel connect page sets

  • The connect screen wizard quickens service deployment time by simplifying BBSM connect page design

  • Administrative Session Deactivation

  • An operator and/or administrator can terminate an end-users session via a web-based interface permanently or temporarily

  • Support for Cisco switch clustering

  • Reduces the number of required IP addresses from one per switch to one per cluster (up to 16 switches), simplifying design and management

  • Secure Enterprise Network Layering (Visitor-based networking)

  • BBSM can be configured to enable a visitor overlay network on the enterprise wireless LAN in areas of a campus where vendors and partners visit to reduce overhead associated with getting them connected and offer a guest-friendly service.
