Cisco IP/TV Version 3.5
Cisco Systems announces availability of the Cisco IP/TV 3.5 software and new Cisco IP/TV 3426 and Cisco IP/TV 3427 Broadcast Server platforms
Cisco® IP/TV® Version 3.5 delivers a complete, highly scalable, bandwidth-efficient solution for high-quality video communications over enterprise networks.
Part of the Cisco Systems® line of content networking products, Cisco IP/TV is a ready-to-use solution for delivering networked video with superior ease of use and integration with IP network services. Cisco IP/TV supports live video, scheduled video, video on demand (VoD), synchronized presentations, and screen captures, and a wide range of video management functions.
New Features
Cisco IP/TV 3.5 builds on the same widely used software platform, including the following new features:
•
Encoding up to eight streams of varying formats and bit rates in one Cisco IP/TV Broadcast Server
•
MPEG-4 Advanced Audio coding (AAC) format, delivering CD-quality sound at compression substantially better than the popular MP3 format
•
MPEG-4 compression for Cisco IP/TV SlideCast, offering high-quality synchronized presentation media
•
Integrated delivery directly to Apple QuickTime in addition to Cisco IP/TV clients
•
Compatibility with Internet Streaming Media Alliance (ISMA) specifications, based on standard protocols and formats supported by a wide range of devices across the industry
New Cisco IP/TV 3426 and Cisco IP/TV 3427 Broadcast Server models offer high-performance MPEG-4 encoding and multiple streams in one appliance platform.
•
The Cisco IP/TV 3426 server delivers up to four real-time MPEG-4 streams through software-based compression. Alternatively, it can take in one video feed and encode at multiple bit rates, for Webcasts that need to reach audiences with varying bandwidth requirements.
•
Three Cisco IP/TV 3427 configurations offer the ability to encode from five to eight streams in one unit, saving rack space and simplifying manageability. This high-performance hardware platform includes dual CPUs for multistream software encoding, along with hot-swappable disks and fans for high system availability. The platform can encode in MPEG-1, MPEG-2, or MPEG-4, along with a wide range of audio formats.
Platform Support
Cisco IP/TV 3.5 is supported on all currently shipping platforms, including the Cisco IP/TV 3412 Control Server, the Cisco IP/TV 3425 and Cisco IP/TV 3425A broadcast servers, the Cisco IP/TV 3417 Video Starter System and Cisco IP/TV 3432 Archive Server. The Cisco IP/TV 3415 Control Server and Cisco IP/TV 3424 Broadcast Server are also supported for upgrades. Other platforms will require a hardware upgrade.
