Introducing New Cisco 2600/3660/3700 Series Network Analysis Module
Cisco Systems®, the worldwide leader in networking for the Internet, addresses the need for multiservice network management and traffic monitoring in enterprise branch offices with a new network analysis module (NAM) for Cisco® 2600XM Series multiservice platforms, the Cisco 3660 Multiservice Platform, and Cisco 3700 Series multiservice access routers. The Cisco 2600/3660/3700 Series NAM expands the Cisco NAM solution currently available for Cisco Catalyst® 6500 Series switches and Cisco 7600 Series routers. It enables network managers to gain application-level visibility into network traffic at remote sites with the ultimate goal of improving performance, reducing failures, and maximizing returns on network investments.
The Cisco 2600/3660/3700 Series NAM hardware is supported by the Cisco Network Analysis Module Software 3.2, providing comprehensive traffic-monitoring capabilities integrated within the network infrastructure. The software comes with the embedded, Web-based NAM Traffic Analyzer, which provides full-scale remote monitoring and troubleshooting capabilities for LANs and WAN, accessible through a Web browser.
Important features of Cisco 2600/3660/3700 Series NAM include:
- Network module form factor hardware, optimized performance single-processor architecture with 256 MB of RAM and a 20-GB hard disk drive
- Proven software application derived from Cisco Catalyst 6500 Series NAM
- Embedded, Web-based NAM Traffic Analyzer supports real-time and historical application-level monitoring based on Remote Monitoring 2 (RMON2) and other advanced MIBs
- Supported by special packet-monitoring feature in Cisco IOS® Software; provides visibility at IP layer and higher for both LAN and WAN traffic, including encrypted links
- Integrated traffic analysis within the router enables detailed visibility and full packet capture and decodes without having to send personnel to remote sites or to haul large amounts of data over WAN links to the central site
- NetFlow analysis capabilities for local and remote devices
- Dual monitoring interfaces: one "internal" backplane interface for receiving copy of LAN or WAN traffic sent through special packet-monitoring feature in the router's Cisco IOS Software, one "external" interface for receiving traffic directly from local or remote LAN ports; can use either interface for management traffic and for receiving NetFlow Data Export
- Fast Ethernet-class monitoring performance (while using the internal monitoring interface, it is recommended to monitor up to 10 Mbps of traffic on the Cisco 2600XM Series and the Cisco 2691 Multiservice Platform and up to 45 Mbps on the Cisco 3700 Series and the Cisco 3660; external monitoring interface can be used for higher-capacity monitoring)
- Support for Application Response Time (ART), voice-over-IP (VoIP), and quality-of-service (QoS) monitoring
- Comprehensive real-time and historical router interface utilization statistics through MIBII
- TACACS+, Secure Sockets Layer (SSL), and Secure Shell (SSH) Protocol-based security
Platform Requirements
- The Cisco 2600/3660/3700 Series NAM can be deployed in any network module slot in the Cisco 2600XM Series, Cisco 2691, Cisco 3660, and Cisco 3700 Series
- Only one NAM is supported per router chassis
- The Cisco 2600/3660/3700 Series NAM is supported with Cisco IOS Software Release 12.3(4)XD or later (all software images)
