Cisco 7200 Series Processors

The Cisco 7200 processing engines performance route processing and offer modularity providing customers with the ability to field upgrade their processing performance. As the demand for Internet connectivity increases and higher speeds become a must, the modularity offered by the Cisco 7200 series provides customers with maximum flexibility and investment protection.

NETWORK PROCESSING ENGINES
The Cisco 7200 Series offers a variety of Network Processing Engines (NPEs) in order to provide customers with maximum flexibility in meeting their network requirements. To continue to meet the increasing needs for performance, the newest processor—the NPE-G1, addresses the demand for performance and flexibility by more than doubling processing capacity, to 1 million packets per second.

Ideal for all feature mixes and highest feature flexibility, NPE processors support a wide range of IP network services including quality of service, MPLS, broadband aggregation, NBAR, security, multiservice, compression, and IPSec Triple Data Encryption Standard (3DES) encryption and more.

SERVICES ACCELERATION
The Cisco 7200 offers a services accelerator (NSE-1) that specializes in accelerating specific sets of services in order to maximum feature performance for certain applications. NSE-1 is an excellent solution for Service Providers who are looking to turn on specific sets of features without experiencing typical performance degradation. The two applications where service providers will see feature performance benefits using NSE-1 are leased line aggregation and broadband aggregation.

The NSE-1 Services Accelerator should be used when feature performance is required for specific feature sets. Although all services available in IOS are available for use with the NSE-1, only specific services (PXF services) are accelerated. When a non-PXF feature is turned on an interface features are available for acceleration on that interface.
