Dynamic Packet Transport

Dynamic Packet Transport (DPT) offers the reliability and restorability associated with traditional transport technologies, such as SONET/SDH, but is optimized to carry IP traffic and applications. DPT uses a dual, counter-rotating fiber ring, which allows both fibers to concurrently transport data traffic and its corresponding control messages. DPT's Spatial Reuse Protocol (SRP) enables packet destination stripping as well as statistical multiplexing, dramatically increasing ring bandwidth use in a media-independent environment.

DPT combines the bandwidth-efficient and services-rich capabilities of IP routing with the bandwidth-rich, self-healing capabilities of traditional fiber rings to deliver fundamental cost and functionality advantages over existing solutions.
