The Cisco Networking Academy Program
is a comprehensive 280 hour course developed to train students
and in-transition workers to design, build, and maintain
computer networks. Offered at high schools, universities,
community colleges, occupational training centers and other
educational programs around the world, this highly successful
alliance between Cisco Systems, educators, and governments
prepares its graduates for the demands and enormous opportunities
of the information economy. This program was started in
October 1997.
Individuals with high tech skills
are in great demand right now, in the face of a
worldwide shortage of information technology professionals
expected to reach 1.85 million by 2002 (according to IDC
Research). Academy graduates are able to pursue advanced
degrees in higher education or get good jobs as IT specialists.
Cisco has also established a Workplace
Learning Initiative to help students obtain internships,
on-the-job training and mentoring.
