
On April 25, 2000 12 Republican U.S. House
Members who comprise the Mainstreet Republicans toured a
Cisco Networking Academy Program at Sequoia High School
in Redwood City, CA. The delegation was welcomed by networking
academy students and were given a tour of the schools
networking lab. The delegation and the students then went
into a classroom to discuss the program, education and general
high technology issues. Cisco Networking Academy Manager
Susan Jeanero opened the discussion by giving a brief overview
of the Cisco Networking Academy Program.
Members of the delegation included: Rep.
Charles Bass (R-NH), Rep. Judy Biggert (R-IL), Rep. Mike
Castle (R-DE), Rep. Vern Ehlers (R-MI), Rep. Amo Houghton
(R-NY), Rep. Nancy Johnson (R-CT), Rep. Rick Lazio (R-NY),
Rep. Doug Ose (R-CA), Rep. Chris Shay (R-CT), Rep. Fred
Upton (R-MI), Rep. Jim Walsh (R-NY), and Former Governor
Jock McKernan (R-ME).
The Mainstreet Republicans consist of 57
Republican U.S. Representatives. It was founded to promote
thoughtful leadership in the Republican Party and to serve
as a voice for centrist Republicans. Their primary focus
is on issues that matter to the American people, which include
a number of issues that are of great importance to America's
surging Internet Economy. Internet Economy issues that the
group focuses on are: a permanent R&D tax credit, relaxed
encryption regulations, increasing the cap on H1-Bvisas,
and building a stronger educational environment. For more
