
John Chambers and King Abdullah at
Cisco Systems San Jose Headquarters
On Monday, June 5, 2000 His Majesty King
Abudllah of Jordan visited Cisco Systems for a morning of
meetings. King Abdullah participated in a private meeting
with Cisco Systems President and CEO John Chambers and then
joined a roundtable discussion with high-level Silicon Valley
Executives and the City of San Jose Mayor Ron Gonzales.
Some of the issues that were discussed
with King Abdullah were the power of Internet, the importance
of education, how IT can improve the Jordanian economy,
and the importance of deregulation and competition. Some
of King Abdullahs goals in his trip the U.S. were
to promote and encourage economic reform for Jordan by focusing
on trade, investment and free movement of capital, continuing
to privatize government-owned companies, and continuing
his efforts in building a strong IT infrastructure.
King Abdullah is the eldest son of the
late King Hussein. King Hussein passed away on February
6, 1999 and King Abdullah assumed the crown on February
7, 1999. King Abdullah is married to Queen Rania and they
have two young children.
On his trip to the United States King Abdullah
also visited New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles and met
with President Bill Clinton in Washington D.C.
