Set Preferences

You can set preferences for your company on this screen.

To understand the best settings for your company, it is important to understand how the tool works.

When a user associates with your company, a notification is sent to all partner administrators who have been assigned. There may be one or more partner administrator for each company; it is up to the company to decide how many and who will fill this role.

After 48 hours, or if a user sends an escalation request, the approval is escalated and a notification is sent to your CAM. The CAM receives the same type of notification and can use the tool to approve or deny users. If another 24 hours passes without a response, or if the user escalates a request further, the request is sent to the theater manager at Cisco, who will review the request and contact the CAM. At any time in the process, you, the partner administrator, can enter into the system and approve or deny the request, regardless of how many times it has been escalated. Once a request has been approved, the user is registered as an employee of your company and their access upgraded to Partner level. You can always check on the users currently registered to your company by checking My Company's Data at Cisco, where you can view and delete users already associated with your company.

Preferences regulate how much control you have over approving users. You can set the system to "Active Approval", which means that someone must physically approve every request, regardless of how long it takes for that approval or denial to be proceed. This option is best suited to administrators who plan to be very proactive and want complete control over who is associated with their companies. It is recommended for partner administrators using this setting to check the system at least once a day, and to make sure the company has at least two partner administrators assigned; otherwise users will be stranded waiting for approval. For example, if you set your preferences to "Active Approval" and Joe Smith requests access, Joe will wait until he is approved or denied. Assume you are the only partner administrator for your company and your CAM is traveling for three weeks. If you leave on a two-week vacation, Joe will be waiting for two or more weeks with only guest access to Cisco.com.

Even with "Active Approval" selected, the other partner administrators at your company can choose to approve the request, or it may be escalated to your CAM (after being set to pending for 48 hours) for approval.

The second option, "Automatically Approve," lets you set a time-out period for requests, after which users will be automatically approved. This option works best if you do not want to physically approve every request and only wish to intervene when a user who requests access is not employed by your company. You can also set the number of days you want to request to wait before it is automatically approved. You may also check My Company's Data at Cisco to see every employee associated with your company and delete those who do not belong.
