 Service Provider Solutions Service providers—telephone, wireless, cable, and Internet service provider companies—are at the heart of the communications industry. They seamlessly deliver voice, data, and Internet access services to companies and individuals around the world. In addition, they often supply the equipment for those services. In order to prosper, service providers are looking for ways to quickly create and deliver new services for their customers. To remain price competitive, they must also lower the cost of ownership for their networks. Cisco is working closely with service providers to provide tailored products and support offerings. By developing network infrastructure solutions for them, Cisco is helping service providers to rapidly deploy leading-edge data services while lowering their cost of ownership and simplifying network management. Cisco has also teamed up with a number of large telephone companies to provide networking equipment packages, including the line and service, designed specifically for their business customers and telecommuters. To handle double-digit growth in Internet usage, many large providers rely on Cisco products and support to help them quickly expand their networks and maintain a high level of customer service. In addition, Cisco offers a number of joint marketing programs, such as the Cisco Powered Network program, along with custom product development and consulting services to ensure their success. |
   |  British Telecommunications plc (BT) is an example of a service provider fulfilling its customers' needs using Cisco products. BT provides managed network services for many of the largest firms in the U.K. Companies with as many as 2000 locations can contract with BT, who will then design, implement, own, and operate the network on their behalf.
With its extensive networking experience, BT recently began offering packaged networking solutions, including Cisco equipment and BT services, for medium-sized businesses. Customers can order complete off-the-shelf networks that are easy to support and maintain at extremely competitive prices. The program has been very successful, adding over 1000 customer sites per month for BT.
