Diogo Vasconcelos
Diogo Vasconcelos, President, Innovation and Knowledge Society Unit, Presidency of Council of Ministers (PT)

Vasconcelos is 35 years old, was born in Porto, Portugal. He graduated in Law at the Porto Catholic University. He is a post graduate in Communications Law at Coimbra University and also in Management at Porto Catholic University. He is currently taking a master in Political Science at Lisbon Catholic University.

He was elected to the Portuguese Parliament in 2002. In October 2001, Diogo Vasconcelos was appointed President of UMIC - Innovation and Knowledge Society Unity- the entity that works with the Assistant Minister of the Prime-Minister for information society, e-government and innovation policies.

From May 1999 until March 2000, he was vice-president of PSD - Partido Social Democrata. Since then and until March of 2001 Diogo Vasconcelos was the official spokesman of the Party for information society issues. Now he is non-executive member of the board of the Portuguese Innovation Agency and Sá Carneiro Institute.

As student, he has President of the Catholic University Association, founder and President of the Porto Academic Federation and he represented all the higher education students on the National Council of Education.

As entrepreneur, he was co-founder of several companies, on contents (multimedia production and Ideias & Negocios business magazine), environment (recycling and environment services) and venture capital (the first Portuguese independent venture capital company). He left all his private jobs to serve in government.

As civil entrepreneur, he was (from 1996 to 2001) vice-President of ANJE (National Young Entrepreneurs Association), launch the Entrepreneurs Academia and served on the advisory board on several incubation and innovation centres.
