Cisco to Incorporate Industry Standards into Home Networking Products

SAN JOSE, Calif., Dec. 29, 1999 - Cisco Systems, Inc. today announced its membership in the Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) Forum, an industry group focused on enabling the emergence of easily connected Internet devices in home networks.

This industry group will define specifications that utilize the industry-standard Extensible Markup Language (XML). These specifications will compliment the work being done in the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) Zero Configuration Working Group by Cisco and other industry leaders.

"Cisco is committed to working with others to create open standards for emerging markets such as Internet appliances. Open standards will enable easy connection for consumer products to broadband Internet services," said Don Listwin, Cisco Executive Vice President.

More information on Cisco's Home Networking plans will be made available during The Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, January 6-9, 2000.
