Problem Description
Some specific 15454-OPT-AMP-C= cards are potentially at risk of traffic outage while performing a firmware upgrade of the optical module.
Background
The problem may occur only in the case when SW is being downloaded which includes a new version of optical module firmware. Other SW downloads which do not modify the optical module firmware, are not exposed to this issue.
The root cause of the problem is a defective CPLD (Complex Programmable Logic Device) component installed on some specific cards produced in a specific timeframe. This issue has since been corrected.
Problem Symptoms
15454-OPT-AMP-C= cards effected by this issue will experience potential traffic outtages while loading SW which updates the optical module firmware.
Workaround/Solution
There is no identified workaround for this issue. Cisco recommends replacement for affected cards which can be identified by serial number. This field notice contains a serial number validation tool which allows customers to confirm their affected hardware. The link to this serial number validation tool can be found in the "How to Identify Hardware Level" section of this field notice.
How To Identify Hardware Levels
To determine the serial number of your line cards:
Open Cisco Transport Controller.
From the Shelf View, select Inventory
From the Inventory tab, locate the line card in question and compare the information from the Inventory tab. Compare the serial numbers against the serial number validation tool provided.

2. >RTRV-INV::ALL
3. >CANC-USER::
Compare the information from the TL1 inventory command against the serial number validation tool provided.
A serial number validation tool has been provided so customers can easily check their hardware's serial number to identify affected units.
