Problem Description
A traffic outage could occur on the 15454-MRC-12, 15454-MRC-4, or 15454-DS3XM-12.
Background
A traffic outage on the 15454-MRC-12, 15454-MRC-4, or 15454-DS3XM-12 could occur under certain conditions when upgrading to release 8.0.
Problem Symptoms
-
Software upgrade from a release prior to 8.0 to 8.0 causes:
-
Multi-Second outage on the 15454-DS3XM-12 card in the Main slots 1, 3, 5, 12, 14, and16 when an XC or XCVT cross connect card is used.
-
Complete outage on the 15454-DS3XM-12 card in the Protect slots 2, 4, 6, 13, 15, and 17 when an XC or XCVT cross connect card is used.
-
Multi-Second outage on the 15454-MRC-12 card when an XC or XCVT cross connect card is used.
Note: Support for the 15454-MRC-4 card first appears in Release 8.0. Consequently, the software upgrade issue does not apply to the 15454-MRC-4 card.
-
-
Soft reset in 8.0 causes:
-
Multi-Second outage on the 15454-DS3XM-12 card in the Main slots 1,3,5,12,14, and 16 when the active XC or XCVT cross connect card is in slot 8.
-
Total Outage of the 15454-DS3XM-12 card in the Main slots 1, 3, 5, 12, 14, and 16 when the active XC or XCVT cross connect card is in slot 10. A hard reset will clear the problem, but a further soft reset will again cause an outage.
-
Multi-Second outage on the 15454-DS3XM-12 card in Protect slots 2, 4, 6, 13, 15, and 17 when the active XC or XCVT cross connect card is in slot 10.
-
Total Outage of the 15454-DS3XM-12 card in Protect slots 2, 4, 6, 13, 15, and 17 when the active XC or XCVT cross connect card is in slot 8. A hard reset will clear the problem, but a further soft reset will again cause an outage.
-
Multi-Second outage on the 15454-MRC-12 card when an XC or XCVT cross connect card is used.
-
Multi-Second outage on the 15454-MRC-4 card when an XC or XCVT cross connect card is used.
-
Workaround/Solution
Replacing the XC or XCVT with a 10G capable cross connect resolves the problem.
Trade-in programs are available to replace your XC or XCVT with either an XC-VXC-10G or XC-10G cross connect card. Access to the Trade-in tool is located at the Cisco Technology Migration Plan (registered customers only) page.
There is no workaround in Release 8.0 when using the 15454-MRC-12, 15454-MRC-4 or the 15454-DS3XM-12 with the XC or XCVT cross connect cards.
If you are unable to replace your XC or XCVT cards, the issue will be addressed in Release 8.5.
