Problem Description
The WIC-1SHDSL-V2 card does not meet a safety requirement specific to US and Canada installations. This safety requirement specifies how the WIC-1SHDSL-V2 card handles an abnormal overvoltage condition. Abnormal overvoltage conditions can be generated by a power line coming in contact with and energizing the telecommunications line attached to the WIC-1SHDSL-V2 card.
If an abnormal overvoltage condition were to occur in the telecommunications line connected to the WIC-1SHDSL-V2 card, a fire hazard may possibly develop. There have been no occurrences reported to date.
Background
Cisco's internal testing has identified that the WIC-1SHDSL-V2 card does not meet a US and Canadian abnormal overvoltage safety requirement. This abnormal overvoltage safety requirement is intended to simulate a situation where a utility power line comes in contact with and energizes a conductor connected to a product.
This safety requirement applies to the United States and Canada.
Problem Symptoms
If a power line were to come in contact with a telecommunications line connected to the WIC-1SHDSL-V2 card, a fire hazard could develop. No occurrences of this problem have been reported.Workaround/Solution
Customers in the United States and Canada with the affected product should immediately obtain from Cisco a replacement product. The affected product can be identified as Top Assembly Number (TAN). Again, this applies to United States and Canada installations only. Refer to How to Identify Hardware Levels below for instructions on how to view the version of your product.
Note: Contact TAC immediately for replacement, if your WIC-1SHDSL-V2 card falls within the noted guidelines.
How To Identify Hardware Levels
To determine if your unit(s) is affected you can check the Top Assembly Number (TAN) of the product on the outside of the unit and electronically. An effected unit has a Top Assembly Number (TAN) of 800-23445-01 and is being deployed in the United States or Canada.
You can check the TAN number by issuing a show diag from the CLI on the host router.
