Problem Description
WebNS 7.10.4.06 software and earlier may not correctly detect the number of modules installed in the chassis. Some software was incorrectly using information from the Switch Module to determine module presence at boot time rather than the backplane. If the software determined that a module was present, it would send a broadcast message to that module, which could cause internal queue problems.
Background
The WebNS software was incorrectly detecting modules at boot time and sending out broadcast messages to unpopulated slots. These messages could cause internal queue problems.
Problem Symptoms
A CSS11500 with empty slots may display the following Syslog messages: OCT 20 05:42:43 1/1 35 FP_DRV-4: PrismImmFastPath::Send: TxToQueue Failure. Message Send aborted.
OCT 20 05:42:44 1/1 36 FP_DRV-3: PrismBufferDebug: (Buffer Pool: 2) Xfer of ownership error on buffer 0x8fc14100. Attempt to xfer FROM: IQ2000 TO: IQ2000 Xfer activity FROM: DEALLOC TO: DEALLOC Old Task: FpVlanLearn(Id = 0x8bbc02a0), New Task: FpVlanLearn(Id = 0x8bbc02a0)
Note: The buffer addresses and task names may vary from system to system.
This condition could result in boot issues, arp reply issues, or other unknown behavior.
Workaround/Solution
The defects related to this field notice have been fixed in a Sustaining build and will be incorporated in the next maintenance releases. Cisco Systems recommends that customers with non-fully populated chassis running 7.10 software upgrade their WebNS software to 7.10.4.07S until the next maintenance release is available. WebNS 7.20 software should not display this problem.
The software can be downloaded from the CSS11500 Interim Releases page.
