All SCMs shipped from Cisco Systems should already have 128 MB of memory; only SCMs shipped from Arrowpoint Communications should have 64 MB of memory. |
Problem Description
The WebNS 6.10 software release requires the CSS 11800 to have 128 MB to boot and operate.
Background
Prior to the Cisco Systems acquisition of ArrowPoint Communications, ArrowPoint shipped SCMs for the CSS 11800 with 64 MB of memory. The WebNS 6.10 software release requires the CSS 11800 to have 128 MB. Units shipped from Cisco Systems should not be affected.
Problem Symptoms
If WebNS 6.10 is loaded onto an SCM that does not have 128 MB of memory, it will not boot the Operational Software.
Workaround/Solution
To upgrade a CS-800-SYS-01 or CS-800-SYS-03 (ArrowPoint model number) to WebNS 6.10, you must upgrade the SCM memory prior to upgrading the software. To order an additional 64 MB of memory for the SCM, order CSS8-SCM-MEM-128M= .
If you load WebNS 6.10 software on a CSS 11800, CS-800-SYS-01, or CS-800-SYS-03 with an SCM containing 64 MB of memory, the 6.10 software will not work properly. You must reboot the CSS and access OffDM to revert the primary boot image to a 5.x or earlier version of software, upgrade the SCM memory, then reboot the CSS and load the 6.10 software.
How To Identify Hardware Levels
To determine how much memory your SCM has use the show system-resources command. If the installed memory for slot 7/1 is 128 MB, then the system has enough memory. If the installed memory for slot 7/1 is 64 MB, then the system memory needs to be upgraded. Below is an example of the show system-resources command with 128 MB of memory installed:
