Problem Description
The WIC-1AM and WIC-2AM were not FCC Class B Compliant.
Background
The WIC-1AM and WIC-2AM were originally released as FCC Class A compliant. The Cisco 1700 series of routers required these WIC cards to be modified to the more stringent FCC Class B compliance to maintain the overall FCC Class B compliance of the router.
Problem Symptoms
There are no physical symptoms or error messages generated. These WICs produced more RF emissions than allowed by FCC Class B compliance.
Workaround/Solution
Replace the affected hardware if FCC Class B certification is required in your Cisco 1700 router environment.
As of approximately February 27, 2002, new products that were manufactured under Engineering Change Order (ECO) E051736 are guaranteed to be free of this problem. Refer to How to Identify Hardware Levels below for instructions on how to view the version of in-service product. Product shipped from Service Logistics may still exhibit this problem. Coding return materials authorizations (RMAs) as shown below guarantees a replacement which is not affected by this problem:

How To Identify Hardware Levels
Engineering Change Order E051736 changed the revision of the WIC-1AM Top-level Assembly Number (TAN) from 800-08823-01 B0 to 800-08823-01 C0.
Boards with a TAN revision of B0 or earlier, for example 800-08823-01 B0, are subject to the information in this field notice. Boards with a TAN revision of C0 or later, such as 800-08823-01 C0, are not subject to the information in this field notice.
ECO E051736 changed the revision of the WIC-2AM TAN from 800-08283-01 B0 to 800-08283-01 C0.
Boards with a TAN revision of B0 or earlier, such as 800-08283-01 B0, are subject to the information in this field notice. Boards with a TAN revision of C0 or later, such as 800-08283-01 C0, are not subject to the information in this field notice.
The top-level assembly number and revision of the WIC-1AM and WIC-2AM boards can be seen with the show diag command.
