Problem Description
The new version of software is incompatible with the original hardware currently in the field. A free upgrade program has been established to provide customers with hardware capable of running all new software releases.
Background
The IP/VC 3540 Series Version 2 MCUs are being launched as a new product with new part numbers, but the same prices as the old 3540 MCUs. It is not just a new version of software, but a new, higher capability hardware design. Because the software is not backwards-compatible with the original IP/VC 3540 modules, current IP/VC 3540 MCU customers will be given a free upgrade to the new Version 2 MCUs.

Problem Symptoms
No problem symptom is visible to the end customer. The customer cannot upgrade to version 2.0.
Workaround/Solution
A free upgrade program was established to migrate customers from the original IP/VC 3540 modules to the new version modules. The upgrade program ran until December 31, 2002. Support for the Version 1.0 software and hardware ended on December 31, 2002.
