Problem Description

Cisco 801-804 orders between November 21, 2001, and December 17, 2001, not configured with flash memory upgrades, were shipped from manufacturing with 4MB of flash memory instead of the default 8MB of flash memory.

Background

The problem was detected in manufacturing.

Problem Symptoms

The router will show 4MB flash upon boot up and when the show version command is issued.

Workaround/Solution

If the router was purchased between November 21, 2001, and December 17, 2001, the serial number will have a week value of 47-51:

JMX0547[XXXX] - JMX0551[XXXX] or JAC0547[XXXX] - JAC0551[XXXX]

Observe the boot sequence of the router to determine if it has only 4MB of Flash Memory. If you have verified the above, submit an RMA for either the Flash memory (if the customer agrees to install it) or the respected router (if the customer doesn't feel qualified to install the Flash Memory).
