Problem Description
If you are running WebNS 5.0 and using the Proximity Database (PDB), you should not introduce a Cisco Content Services Switch (CSS) running WebNS version 5.02 into the proximity mesh. Updates from a WebNS 5.0 Proximity Database to a WebNS 5.02 Proximity Database can cause the switch to reboot. Versions prior to 5.02 are interoperable, but version 5.02 should only be used in a mesh with other version 5.02 units. Version 5.02 is a special feature release for DNS sticky and should only be loaded onto systems utilizing this feature, otherwise customers should stay on the main version 5.0 release train.
Background
The DNS sticky feature in WebNS 5.02 required some changes to data structures used in the Proximity Database. These changes made WebNS 5.02 incompatible with previous versions of WebNS in the same proximity mesh. All devices must be running WebNS 5.02 for DNS sticky to function.
Problem Symptoms
If you upgrade a PDB participating in a WebNS 5.0 mesh to WebNS 5.02, it will cause the upgraded PDB to reload. WebNS 5.02 PDBs cannot participate in a proximity mesh with units running WebNS versions prior to 5.02. We recommend that you only use WebNS 5.02 if you require the DNS sticky feature, otherwise we recommend that you use the main 5.0 release train and its subsequent maintenance releases.
Workaround/Solution
All devices must be running WebNS version 5.02 to be able to use the DNS sticky feature. If you are not using the DNS sticky feature, all devices should be running WebNS version 5.0, preferably the latest maintenance release version 5.00.020. A fix will be introduced to make the two versions compatible.
