Problem Description
The following Cisco 2500 images have outgrown the flash memory size on the Cisco 2501 through the 2525 products:
-
c2500-a3js-l
-
c2500-jk8s-l
-
c2500-jk8os-l
The largest supported flash memory size for the Cisco 2500 is 16 MB; therefore, images larger than 16,777,216 bytes cannot run on the Cisco 2500 routers.
Background
The Cisco 2500 series is a mature product. Some of the Cisco IOS ® Software Release 12.2 images have outgrown the Cisco 2500 series flash memory capacity.
Problem Symptoms
The affected images exceed the flash memory size.
The images cannot be loaded into the router using Trivial File Transfer Protocol (TFTP), File Transfer Protocol (FTP), remote copy protocol (rcp), or Netboot.
Workaround/Solution
Workaround
There is no workaround.
Solution
The End of Engineering (EOE) release for the affected images is 12.2(1).
EOE means:
-
There will be no more scheduled maintenance releases for images beyond 12.2(1).
-
Ongoing support for functionality in the 12.2 release train is not available.
-
Cisco IOS Software Release 12.2(1) is the last 12.2 maintenance release that is available for ordering.
Cisco will continue to provide Technical Assistance Center (TAC) support on EOE images, but no new software defect repairs will occur.
Upgrade Option:
Cisco has provided a Technology Migration Plan.
It is recommended that Cisco 2500 series users upgrade to the Cisco 2600 series.
