Products Affected
This problem affects MOD1700-VPNs in Cisco 1700 series access routers. The virtual private network (VPN) module fits in an expansion slot inside the chassis of a Cisco 1720, 1750, or 1751 router.
Problem Description
The MOD1700-VPN can produce what appears to be an ID PROM FIELD FORMAT ERROR when booted in a Cisco 1720, 1750, or 1751 router or when the show diagnostics command is issued.
The cosmetic error reflects that the Identification Programmable Read Only Memory (ID PROM) was not cleared to all zeros for unused fields.
Background
Unused fields in ID PROMs were not programmed to all zeros when the MOD1700-VPN was manufactured. The defect produces the symptoms noted.
This has been corrected in modules manufactured after April 10, 2001.
Problem Symptoms
When using the MOD1700-VPN, an IDPROM FIELD FORMAT ERROR can appear after the router boots or a show diagnostics command is issued.
Output appears as:
Slot 1:
Virtual Private Network (VPN) Module Port adapter, 1 port
Port adapter is analyzed
