Problem Description

FlexWAN line cards with hardware version 1.2 or earlier are affected.

Some MultiChannel port adapters installed on FlexWAN line cards may not power up or be recognized by the system. The port adapters that do not work with the FlexWAN line card are PA-MC-XXX.

To check the hardware version, enter the following commands from the enable prompt:

Background

Some MultiChannel port adapters installed on FlexWAN line cards have been reported as not powering on or not being recognized by the Cisco Catalyst system in which they are installed. Only the combination of a FlexWAN line card and specific MultiChannel port adapters exhibit this problem.

Problem Symptoms

When the MultiChannel port adapter installed on a FlexWAN line card is powered on, the port adapter enable LED does not illuminate and the following console message is displayed: Port Adapter card type 65535 is not recognized.

Re-seating the FlexWAN line card does not clear the problem.

Workaround/Solution

Affected units should be replaced using the normal return materials authorization (RMA) process.
