Problem Description
The Cisco AS5800 does not properly receive or interpret status information from the AC-Input Power Shelf. As a result, power shelf faults, overtemperature conditions, power failures and missing power module events will not be reported properly to the AS5800.
Background
The Cisco AS5800 does not properly receive or interpret status information from the standard AC-input power shelf. As a result, power shelf faults, overtemperature conditions, power failures and missing power module events will not be reported to the AS5800. AC-input power shelf monitoring requires that monitoring signals be transmitted from the power shelf to the dial shelf filter module where they are interpreted by the AS5800 IOS. Any of these issues may prevent power shelf monitoring on some currently implemented systems:
- A jumper on the power shelf may be incorrectly set. Users should verify the jumper settings, and reset them if necessary.
- The pinouts on the monitoring cable (DS58-CAB-MBUS) which interconnects the power shelf and dial shelf may be incorrect. Users should replace the cable with the updated cable.
Problem Symptoms
Power shelf faults, overtemperature conditions, power failures and missing power module events will not trigger an event or alarm.
Workaround/Solution
To enable monitoring on the AC-Input Power shelf you will need to request a replacement monitoring cable via the attached upgrade form. Included with the cable will be detailed instructions on additional command settings and how to enable monitoring. Here is an overview of the process.
- A jumper on the power shelf may be incorrectly set. Users should verify the jumper settings, and reset them if necessary.
- The pinouts on the monitoring cable (DS58-CAB-MBUS) which interconnects the power shelf and dial shelf may be incorrect. Replace the cable with the new cable.
- A Cisco IOS software release needs to be loaded onto the Cisco AS5800 which supports power shelf monitoring. Users should confirm that both the dial shelf and router shelf of the Cisco AS5800 are using Cisco IOS Release 12.1 (3) or later.
- Power shelf monitoring may not be enabled. After confirming that the correct Cisco IOS Release is loaded, users should confirm that monitoring is enabled, and enable it if it is not.
