Problem Description
The 16 port 10/100 Ethernet cards used in Catalyst 8540 Campus Switch Routers (CSRs) earlier than hardware revision 4.1 will not support the ACL daughter card.
Problem Symptoms
The ACL card cannot be installed. The system does not recognize the daughter card.
Background
In development of the ACL daughter card for the Catalyst 8540 10/100 EPAMs, a problem was discovered in the 10/100 cards.
Hardware revisions 4.1 and later have the fix incorporated.
Workaround/Solution
When an order is placed for the ACL card to be installed on a current 10/100 EPAM, an alert will advise customers that 10/100 cards with hardware versions earlier than 4.1 are not compatible with the ACL. This can be verified with the show hardware command from the command line. For cards that are earlier than the 4.1 revision, customers can use the standard return materials authorization (RMA) process to get a replacement with revision 4.1 or later. To request an RMA, use RMA code ARFN (Administrative Request - Field Notice).
