Problem Description
Multiple severe defects, originating in Cisco IOS software releases 12.0(1), 12.0(2), 12.0(1)T, 12.0(1)T1, 12.0(1)XA3, 12.0(1)XB, 12.0(1)DB, 12.0(1)XD, and 12.0(1)XE have critically impacted the Software Image Management (SWIM) application. Customers running Cisco IOS 12.0(1) or later releases that are affected will be unable to perform automated Cisco IOS software and boot loader upgrades using the SWIM application.
Background
Severe defects affecting flash operations have been verified to have rendered the SWIM unusable. The SWIM application is used for performing automated system software and boot loader upgrades on multiple Cisco routers and switches.
Problem Symptoms
This defect has Cisco bug ID CSCdk66836 (registered customers only) , CSCdk66847 (registered customers only) , and CSCdk66856 (registered customers only) . If you are a registered CCO user and you have logged in, you can view the bug details.
Workaround/Solution
Customers running the affected releases will be required to perform Cisco IOS software and boot loader upgrades manually. A fix to Cisco IOS 12.0(3) and 12.0(3)T will be released in late February 1999 to correct this problem.
