Problem Description
Modems executing firmware that is different from what is bundled with Cisco IOS may lose the firmware mapping after a reload and fall back to using the firmware version bundled with Cisco IOS.
Problem Symptoms
The show modem mapping command shows that some modems are running the Cisco IOS-default digital signal processor (DSP) firmware, while others are running the new DSP firmware version. Some modems may not be operational.
Background
Cisco has determined that an AS5200 running Cisco IOS release 11.3AA or Cisco IOS 12.0 images with a Cisco IOS 11.2(11)P2 boot image may not fully reload the modem DSP firmware when using Microcom modems.
Workaround/Solution
It is planned that the release of boot image Cisco IOS 11.2(17)P will fix this problem. Until this release is available, manually load modem DSP firmware with the copy flash modem command or run with the bundled Microcom firmware only.
Bug Details
This defect is logged in bug ID CSCdk67882, CSCdk63579, and CSCdk60427. If you are a registered CCO user and you have logged in, you can view bug details.
Verification of Code Version
Performing the show modem mapping command will provide the version of Microcom DSP firmware currently running on the DSP and will also list the firmware images available on flash.
