This Virtualized Workload Mobility solution enables the live migration of virtual machines between data center sites up to 100 kilometers apart. The design guide provides recommended best practices and highlights the various functional components of a Cisco Data Center Interconnect (DCI) Solution. It validates the corresponding technologies in the context of a Virtualized Workload Mobility deployment.

Data Center Interconnect technologies and functional components discussed include:

  • Virtual PortChannel (VPC) over a dedicated connection for LAN extension services
  • Cisco OverlayTransport Virtualization (OTV) as a LAN extension option
  • Integration of Cisco Application Control Engine and Global Site Selector with VMware vCenter server to provide path optimization
  • Virtualized Workload Mobility deployment using VMware vMotion, integrated with the Cisco Nexus1000V virtual distributed switch and Cisco Virtual Security Gateway (VSG)
  • Storage requirements for workload mobility solutions
