NX-OS is a network operating system for the next-generation data center and is available in the entire Cisco Data Center switching portfolio.

Built as the foundation of Cisco's Data Center 3.0 vision, NX-OS is designed to provide the features critical to the next-generation data center:

  • High Availability: Uptime is of paramount importance in the data center, especially in a virtualized environment, where infrastructure failure can have a broad impact.
  • Unified Fabric: The system must be able to support a converged data center fabric with consistent features and operations without compromising data and storage networking functionality.
  • Virtualization: The software must deliver virtualization features for the switch and support data center virtualization strategies.
  • Simplified Operations: Reducing operating costs and complexity continue to be a significant priority.
  • Platform for Innovation: The system must be extensible to integrate ongoing innovation and evolution of standards.
