This document describes the password recovery procedure for these Cisco VPN products:

Cisco VPN 5001, 5002, and 5008
The information in this document was created from the devices in a specific lab environment. All of the devices used in this document started with a cleared (default) configuration. If your network is live, make sure that you understand the potential impact of any command.
Conventions

Default Password
The factory default password for the Cisco VPN 5000 Series is "letmein".
Recover the Password
Complete these steps to recover your password.

Power your device off and turn the rotary dial switch at the back of the device to position 9.

Power your device back on.

After the device is booted up, log into the device using the factory default password "letmein".
You have five minutes to log into the device. Otherwise, the password goes back to its previous value.

Configure a new password using these CLI commands:

configure General
-
Password = [string]
-
EnablePassword = [string]

Save your changes.
This causes the device to reboot automatically. Let the device boot up completely.

Power off the device and return the rotary dial switch back to position 0.

Power the device back on.

Once the device is booted up, log in using the new password.
