End-of-Sale and End-of-Life Announcement for
the PA-FE-TX and PA-FE-FX Port Adapters

Cisco Systems announces the end of life of the Cisco PA-FE-TX and PA-FE-FX port adapters. The last day to order the Cisco PA-FE-TX and PA-FE-FX port adapters is October 31, 2003. Customers will continue to receive support from the Cisco Technical Assistance Center (TAC) until October 31, 2008. Table 1 describes the end-of-life milestones, definitions, and dates for the Cisco PA-FE-TX and PA-FE-FX port adapters.

These port adapters are used in the Cisco 7100, 7200, 7400, 7500, and the uBR7200 series routers.

End-of-life announcement date	The date the end-of-sale and end-of-life announcement is distributed to the general public.	January 31, 2003
End of sale date	The last date to order the product through Cisco point-of-sale mechanisms. The product is no longer for sale.	October 31, 2003
Last shipment date	The last possible date that Cisco and/or its contract manufacturers will ship the affected product.	November 31, 2003 (depending on size of final orders and resultant lead times)
End of software maintenance releases date	The last date that Cisco Engineering may release any final software maintenance releases or bug fixes. After this date, Cisco Engineering will no longer develop, repair, maintain, or test the product software.	October 31, 2005
End of routine failure analysis date	The last possible date a routine failure analysis may be performed to determine the cause of product failure or defect.	October 31, 2004
End of new service attachment date	For equipment and software that is not covered by a service-and-support contract, this is the last date to order a new service-and-support contract or add the equipment and/or software to an existing service-and-support contract.	October 31, 2004
End of service contract renewal date	The last date to extend or renew a service contract for the product. The extension or renewal period cannot extend beyond the last date of support.	October 31, 2007
Last date of support	The last date to receive service and support for the product. After this date, all support services for the product are unavailable, and the product becomes obsolete.	October 31, 2008

Customers who want a Fast Ethernet port adapter may want to purchase the PA-2FE-TX or PA-2FE-FX.

Customers with Cisco 7200 Series routers can also use the Fast Ethernet I/O controller or NPE-G1. The C7200-I/O-2FE/E includes two Fast Ethernet ports and the NPE-G1 includes three Gigabit Ethernet or Fast Ethernet ports.

Customers with a SMARTnet or a comprehensive maintenance program contract are entitled to free software updates, 24-hour phone support through the Cisco TAC, and hardware repairs. Customers with comprehensive maintenance program contracts also receive onsite service. Customers who do not have a maintenance contract can purchase software updates and hardware repair services from Cisco to meet specific requirements.
