Cisco CSS 11000 Series Content Services Switches

Introduction

Cisco WebNS Standard and Enhanced Feature Sets

The Cisco Content Service Switch 11000 software, also known as the Cisco WebNS Software, is available with specific licenses that:

• Enable different levels of service

• Characterize the software's function in a network

• Define the memory the system can support

Note: The Cisco WebNS Software is available in a Standard or Enhanced feature set.

Cisco WebNS Standard Features

The Cisco Standard feature set includes:

• Full URL and HTTP Header load balancing

• HTTP-based Redirection

• Content Smart Cache Clustering and Cache Bypass

• IP, cookieand Cisco Secure Socket Layer (SSL) Session ID-based Persistence

• AP Control Lists (ACLs)

• Extension and Domain Qualifier Lists (EQLsand DQLs)

• Remote monitoring (RMON)

• Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP)

• Routing Information Protocol (RIP)and Open Shortest Path First (OSPF)

• Custom Keepalives (FTP, HTTP, Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP), and TCP)

• Denial of Service (DoS) Security

• Hot Site Statistics

• Content API (CAPI)

• Virtual Web Hosting

• Content and Application Peering Protocol (CAPP) and Redundancy features

The Cisco WebNS software standard features are bundled with each Cisco Content Service 11000 series switch and include all content switching features for a local Web site or a caching point of presence (POP).

Cisco WebNS Enhanced Features

The Enhanced feature set contains all components of the Standard feature set and also includes:

• Network Address Translation (NAT) Peering

• Domain Name Service (DNS)

• Demand-Based Content Replication (Dynamic Hot Content Overflow)

• Content Staging and Replication

• Network Proximity DNS

• Content Routing Agent

• Client Side Accelerator

The Proximity Database and Secure Shell (SSH) are optional features.

The Cisco WebNS software enhanced features are available for each 11000 series Cisco Content Service Switch (CSS) and include support for multisite content routing and site selection, all content replication features, and content distribution and delivery services.

Cisco WebNS Software License

For Software Feature sets of previous versions of Cisco WebNS 3.10 and  4.0 refer to Cisco Web Network Services for Cisco CSS 11000 Series.

Check Available License on Cisco Content Service Switch 11000

In the Cisco WebNS Superuser Mode, issue the version command to display the current software version licenses active on the Cisco Content Service Switch and, if applicable, the path to the network-mounted Content Service Switch software and configuration path. This command also displays the flash version for the Cisco Content Service Switch11050 or 11150, or System Controller Module (SCM) status on the Cisco Content Service Switch11800.

For example, the output here shows the Cisco WebNS Feature sets, but not the key:

To display the license key:

1. Enter Cisco WebNS Superuser Mode.

2. Issue the command llama to make sure that the debug level is ON.

3. Issue the command version.

4. The software license key is displayed:

Obtain a Lost or Missing License Key

Your license key is located on a card in an envelope in the Accessory kit.

If you turn on a new Cisco Content Service Switch box and it does not have the license key, or the license key has been lost, it is necessary to request this key by email. You must send the request to licensing@cisco.com. In the email, you have to provide this information:

• Purchase Order number or a valid customer contract number

• For every license key for each piece of Cisco Content Service Switch 11000 hardware, you must provide this information:

  • The Serial number (namely 12345678901)

  • The Model Number (namely CSS-11151-FD-AC) (Issue the command show chassis flash to get the hardware serial number from your Cisco Content Service Switch 11000.)

The license key is sent to you directly by licensing@cisco.com. If you need to contact someone for further assistance with the license key, you can email licensing@cisco.com.

Licensing operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Upgrade or Obtain a New License Key

If you want to upgrade to a new Enhanced or Optional Cisco WebNS Software Feature Set , you can obtain the License Key in these ways:

Before You Upgrade the CSS Software

If you want to upgrade from the Standard to the Enhanced feature set or want to activate a Cisco Content Service Switch software option (for example, SSH Server) that you purchased, refer to the this note here:

Note: To access to the Standard and Enhanced feature sets or Proximity Database requires that you enter a software license key when you boot the Cisco Content Service Switch for the first time. If you enter the Proximity Database license key after the Cisco Content Service Switch is booted, you must reboot the Cisco Content Service Switch before you can configure the Proximity Database so the Cisco Content Service Switch can reallocate the memory. See the Upgrade to Latest WebNS Version Issues section of this document.

If you configure your Cisco Content Service Switch for the Proximity Database, you cannot use the Proximity Database for flow control. For details on configuring a Proximity Database, refer to Configuring Network Proximity.

Install ADI Image and Enter Your License Key

After the Cisco Content Service Switch completes the hardware initialization and power-on diagnostics, you must enter a valid license key for the Cisco Content Service Switch software. The Cisco Content Service Switch does not require you to enter this key on subsequent startups.

Your license key is located on a card in an envelope in the Accessory kit.

The Cisco Content Service Switch prompts you to accept the license agreement. You must accept the license agreement or you cannot log into the Cisco Content Service Switch.

Then the Cisco Content Service Switch (CSS) prompts you to enter your license key, as shown here:

Enter Software License Key: xxxxxxxxxxxx

When you enter:

• A valid license number, the Cisco Content Service Switch prompts you to enter an IP address for the Ethernet Management port.

• An invalid license number, the Cisco Content Service Switch redisplays the license prompt until you enter a valid number. If you do not enter a valid license number, you cannot log into the Cisco Content Service Switch.

Note: If you have purchased the SSH Server option or the Network Proximity software option, the license key is on the Cisco Content Service Switch software license key card. After the Cisco Content Service Switch has booted and you log in, issue the license command to enter the SSH Server license key. For example, enter:

Note: At the prompt, enter the 12-digit option license key.

Upgrade to Latest WebNS Version Issues

If you upgrade, you must enter your Enhanced License Key. If you do not enter the key JUST prior to upgrade, the Cisco Content Service Switch upgrades does not load your Enhanced commands.

When you upgrade:

1. Issue the license command.

2. Enter your 4.0 Enhanced key.

3. Reboot the switch but DO NOT save your active configuration.

Note:  If you upgrade to 4.0 and enter the Enhanced Key and then downgrade, you are provided the Enhanced Feature set, but if you simply upgrade on a 3.10 box, the feature set does not upgrade.

Before you upgrade the Cisco Content Service Switch 11000, read these operating considerations:

• If rmon-history data-source commands exist in your current startup-config file, you receive startup errors when you upgrade the Cisco Content Service Switch to 5.01 from a software version prior to 5.00. In version 5.00 or greater, the ifIndex identifier is assigned differently than it was in prior software versions. After you upgrade the Cisco Content Service Switch to 5.00 or later, you must reissue all rmon-history data-source commands contained in your startup-config file.

• If you upgrade from version 3.xx to 5.01 and have a 3.xx Enhanced software license key, you must enter a 5.01 Enhanced license key during the Cisco Content Service Switch upgrade to 5.01 or it is possible for youto receive startup errors when you attempt to issue Enhanced command-line interface (CLI) commands. If you upgrade the Cisco Content Service Switch and do not enter a 5.01 Enhanced license key prior to upgradeg to 5.01:

  1. Issue the license command to change the license key.

  2. Reboot the Cisco Content Service Switch, but do not save the activeconfiguration.

• If SSH is active on a version 3.xx Cisco Content Service Switch and you have disabled Telnet, you must enable Telnet prior to the upgrade of Cisco Content Service Switch to version 5.01. After you upgrade the Cisco Content Service Switch to version 5.01, issue the license command to enter the SSH license key.
