Cisco 500 Series Content Engines

Introduction

This document provides information on how to upgrade your entire Enterprise CDN (ECDN) solution. The Content Engine (CE) section is specifically for upgrading ECDN boxes to ACNS.

Prerequisites

Requirements

There are no specific requirements for this document.

Components Used

The information in this document is based on the software and hardware versions:

• ECDN 2.1

• ECDN 3.0.x

The information in this document was created from the devices in a specific lab environment. All of the devices used in this document started with a cleared (default) configuration. If your network is live, make sure that you understand the potential impact of any command.

Main Task

In this section, you are presented with the information to configure the features described in this document.

To perform this procedure, you need:

1. ECDN (registered customers only) wizard.

2. PC

3. Layer 2 (L2) network for your PC, CDM, and/or PC

4. Software (ECDN-TO-ACNS-4.1.1-K9.meta and ECDN-TO-ACNS-4.1.1-K9.upg)

Configure the CDM

You will need to get the CDM configured and ready for replication.

1. Plug in CDM.

2. Turn the CDM on.

3. Run the wizard.

4. Select CDM in the wizard (you will see the MAC address).

5. Assign these on the CDM:

   • name

   • IP-address

   • gateway

   • DNS server information

6. Attach to the CDM (http://<ip-address-of-cdm>/start.html) with the username admin and the password default.

7. Set the bandwidth on the CDM to a large number.

8. Select Channel Console.

9. Select Add Channel.

10. Click edit next to Channel 1.

11. Name the channel MANUAL_UPGRADE, select auto replicate and auto subscribe.

12. Change the channel to 150Meg minimum, and click save changes.

13. Use FTP to transfer the ECDN-TO-ACNS-4.1.1-K9.* files into the CDM.

    cd import
    cd MANUAL_UPGRADE
    binary
    prompt
    mput ECDN-TO-ACNS-4.1.1-K9.*
    quit
    

14. Wait for the import to finish (this should take about two minutes).

15. Select Software Update and verify that you see the available software listing the newly imported software choice.

Upgrade the CEs

The CDM is now ready to perform upgrades to the CEs.

1. Plug-in all the CEs.

2. Turn on all of the CEs.

3. Run the Wizard (you must be on the same L2 network as your CE) .

4. Select the CE (you will see the MAC address in the display).

5. Enter the CDM's address, and if possible, use DHCP. Otherwise, configure the IP address, netmask, and gateway.

6. Repeat steps 3 and 4 for each CE.

7. Complete the wizard.

8. Browse to the CDM (http://<cdm-ip-address>/start.html).

9. Select Device Console.

10. Click edit next to your CE (you should see a yellow triangle with an exclamation point in it).

11. Check the approve box and click save changes.

12. Select bandwidth and select your new CE.

13. Set the bandwidth to a large value.

14. Repeat steps 7-10 for each CE.

15. Select Subscriber and verify that all CEs are subscribed to the MANUAL_UPGRADE channel.

16. Select Channel Console and view replication status.

17. Select Software Update.

18. Select your software version (if more than one is available).

19. Select all of your CEs.

20. Click start update.

Upgrade the CDM

If your CEs are not going to remain on this CDM, perform these steps:

1. Connect to box-links on CE (http://<ce-ip-address>/cgi/box) .

2. Select features. The username is admin and the password is default.

3. Select set to factory defaults.

4. Click set.

5. Click box-links.

6. Click reboot.

7. Answer verification for reboot .

8. Telnet to <ce-ip-address>.

9. Log in. The username is admin and the password is default.

10. Issue the show disks command.

11. Issue the disk config sysfs 10% cfs 50% mediafs 30% ecdnfs 10% command. You may choose different values. Refer to the ACNS documentation on disk configuration. Sample command output is shown below.

    ContentEngine# disk config sysfs 10% cfs 30% mediafs 30% cdnfs 30%
    Disk configured successfully.
    New configuration will take effect after reload.
    Please remove this device from the CDM (if any) before reboot this device, 
    as this device's configuration will be stale due to disk repartition.

12. You may want to disable ECDN.

13. Issue the reload command.
