Cisco Systems® announces the end-of-sale and end-of life dates for the Cisco PIX 3DES License Spares part numbers. This announcement does not affect the orderability of Triple Data Encryption Standard (3DES) as an option for a Cisco PIX Firewall at time of chassis purchase. The last day to order the Cisco PIX 3DES License Spares part numbers is August 29, 2003. Table 1 describes the end-of-life milestones, definitions, and dates for the Cisco PIX 3DES License Spares part numbers. Table 2 lists the product part numbers affected by this announcement.
Cisco introduced a new process for obtaining 3DES licenses as spares for Cisco PIX Firewalls. This new process is a more efficient, single Web-based automated method and replaces the previous manual process.
The previous 3DES Spares licensing process required that an order be placed using the Cisco PIX 3DES License Spares part number. A product authorization key (PAK) was then mailed to the customer. The customer entered the PAK and the PIX unit serial number into the PIX licensing page on Cisco.com to obtain the license key.
The new one-step 3DES Spares licensing process is available to any customer with a Cisco.com user ID and password. The new process eliminates the additional step of ordering the 3DES license spare and requiring the product authorization key to obtain the 3DES license. The new process is available from the Cisco PIX licensing page under Technical Support, and requires the registration of the Cisco PIX unit serial number to receive the 3DES license key.
Important: The new process to obtain a Cisco PIX 3DES License Spare does not affect the orderability of 3DES as an option for a Cisco PIX Firewall at time of chassis purchase. That option and applicable part numbers are still available.
